Our Board and Members
Our Board:
The Manitoulin Legal Clinic is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from, and elected annually by, our Clinic members from across the District of Manitoulin.
Our Board is responsible for setting policies for the clinic’s operation and for ensuring that services provided to the community are high quality, cost-effective, and in keeping with the clinic’s strategic plan.
Although Board members do not take part in the clinic’s day-to-day operations, they set the strategic direction and determine service priorities. The Board seeks to ensure that scarce resources are allocated to the areas of greatest local legal needs, keeping in mind that Legal Aid Ontario is legally responsible for providing criminal and family law services through their staff lawyers and private lawyers with Legal Aid certificates.
Members:
People who live in the District of Manitoulin are invited to become members of the Legal Clinic. They may then attend and vote at all members’ meetings, including electing the Board of Directors. Members may also run for election to the Board.
Annual membership is free.
